Is there cell service?

Gate Creek Lodge is equipped with Starlink routers throughout the cabins, ensuring you have high-speed connectivity at all times. However, you might find yourself wanting to disconnect once you dive into the incredible backcountry experiences we offer.

What amenities are in the area?

You can purchase grocery items in Trapper Creek at Vitus or Three Bears, or at Cubby’s IGA located at mile 99 on the Parks Highway. These stores offer a good selection of reasonably priced foods and adult beverages. At Gate Creek, we provide limited meal options and premium gasoline for purchase on the property. Additionally, we offer high-speed WiFi through Starlink, with several routers installed throughout the lodge.

Is there food available for purchase?

We offer a curated menu of homemade meals that are frozen for convenience. At present, we have options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you prefer additional choices, you can find a selection of groceries in Trapper Creek at Vitus or Three Bears, with a broader variety available at Cubby’s IGA located at mile 99 on the Parks Highway.

Are pets allowed in the cabins?

We have two pet-friendly cabins at Gate Creek Lodge—Loon’s Nest and Denali View—where we welcome one friendly dog per cabin. Your dog must be house-trained and sociable. We encourage responsible dog owners to bring their pets and enjoy their stay, but we ask that dogs not be allowed on the furniture and be kenneled at night or when you're away from the cabin. There is a $30 fee for bringing your dog. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate cats at this time.

What is there to do in Petersville?

Winter offers a wealth of recreational opportunities at Gate Creek Lodge, from riding snowmachines to exploring the snowy landscapes. As the seasons change, summer brings its own adventures, including ATV rides, wildlife photography, fishing on the property, gold panning, and hiking to breathtaking panoramic views, just to name a few! If relaxation is more your style, you’ll find that rewarding as well.

What are your reservations, changes, cancellations, and refund policies?

To secure your reservation, we require a credit card number. If you need to cancel, please notify us 30 days before your arrival date to avoid a charge for one night's stay plus tax. If you cancel less than 30 days before your arrival, you will only be charged if we are unable to re-book the cabin. For holidays, three-day weekends, and the entire month of March, we have a 30-day cancellation policy. If you cancel within 30 days, you will not be charged if we can re-book the cabin. When is the winter season?

March is our peak riding month, with optimal weather, daylight hours, and snowpack conditions that create unparalleled riding experiences. However, don’t be fooled—excellent riding can be enjoyed consistently through May, as well.

When is the best time to visit?

From June through August, you'll have the best chance to fully enjoy a summer trip. Fall arrives swiftly in early September and continues through November, followed by a rapid increase in snowfall. Winter recreation typically starts around Christmas and can extend into mid-May, depending on how long the snowpack remains.

What is the weather like in the winter?

During the coldest part of winter, daytime temperatures typically reach the mid-20s°F, while nighttime temperatures generally stay above 0°F. By late February, daytime highs often climb above 32°F. In March, we enjoy around 12 hours of daylight. On average, we receive up to 14 feet of snow each year, often exceeding the snowfall in nearby Trapper Creek, just 10 miles away. The Peters Hills and Dutch Hills, located 10 miles to the west, can accumulate as much as 18 feet of snow in a season, offering abundant opportunities for skiing or snowmachine riding, wherever the trail may take you - maybe even a trip to Talkeetna for lunch.

What is the weather like in the summer?

Summer temperatures typically range from the 50s to 60s, but can occasionally rise into the 70s for several days. Thanks to the Earth's tilt, the summer sun in Alaska is quite intense, so even a day in the 50s might not feel particularly cool. While heavy rain isn't likely, light sprinkles are fairly common during the summer.
