Meet your hosts, Mac and Ellie Butler.

Mac and Ellie Butler both hail from the flatlands of the midwestern Lower 48. Initially they came to the Last Frontier in service to the country, and decided to stay in Alaska after honorably completing their military service. After leaving the Army, Mac found work in the bush for a guided hunting outfit; where a happenstance acquaintance invited him and Ellie to visit Gate Creek. Mac and Ellie immediately fell in love with this wide open country, and upon learning that Susie and Rod were retiring, they eagerly seized the opportunity to purchase Gate Creek Lodge. They were thrilled to share their passion for the Alaskan backcountry. Having spent two years living off-grid in a dry cabin on the Kenai Peninsula, they realized that a conventional lifestyle did not meet their needs. Their commitment to authentic backcountry experiences is evident in their extensive travels and certifications: both hold certifications in Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCC), Avalanche Level I, and Avalanche Rescue certifications. Mac is also certified in Basic Life Support (an advanced form of CPR), and Ellie has Wilderness First Aid certification. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, ensuring safe and genuine backcountry adventures for all.
